Aftercare instructions

To prevent infection, try not to touch the pigmented area with your fingers until it is completely healed.
The area will begin to feel dry and tight as it heals and exfoliates. It is important to keep the crusted tattoo moist and covered for at least 7 days after your procedure to protect it and to keep the pigment and body fluids from oozing onto your clothes.

The next day you can have a shower or bath, however, do not use soap or soak the pigmented area with water. Keep the pigmented area clean and dry. Apply yellow soft paraffin/bepanthen ointment over the nipple and areola area and place gauzes in your bra to aid comfort.

Areola tattooing, also known as areola restoration or nipple tattooing, is a type of medical tattooing that recreates the areola and nipple typically after breast surgery such as mastectomy, breast reconstruction, or cosmetic breast augmentation.

Individuals who have undergone breast surgery, those with faded or irregular areolas, or anyone looking to improve the aesthetic appearance of their areola and nipple area can benefit from this procedure.

When performed by a trained and experienced professional in a sterile environment, areola tattooing is generally safe. Ensure your artist uses single-use needles and hypoallergenic pigments.

The color and size are typically chosen based on your natural areola, personal preference, and what will look most natural with your skin tone and breast shape. Your technician will work with you to choose the best match.

Sensitivity varies, but because the area may have reduced sensation after surgery, discomfort is often minimal. Topical anesthetics can also be used to reduce discomfort.

The procedure typically takes about 1 to 2 hours per areola, depending on the detail and size required.

Healing usually takes about 1 to 2 weeks. Initially, the tattooed area may be swollen and the color may appear darker. It will lighten over time as it heals.

While it’s considered permanent, fading can occur over time. Touch-ups may be necessary after several years to maintain color and definition.

Follow your technician’s specific pre-care instructions, which typically include avoiding blood thinners, alcohol, and sun exposure to the area before the procedure.

Aftercare generally includes keeping the area clean and dry, avoiding touching or scratching, applying prescribed ointments, and avoiding swimming or soaking the area until it’s fully healed.
